I went to a branch to exchange $200 USD. Before they would copy my Passport information. This branch wanted me to get a photocopy. They would not do it at the branch. Fortunately I lived around the corner and had a printer. But, I began to wonder if what a “tourist”, unfamiliar with the area would do; spend an inordinate amount of time looking for a copias tienda. My impression is that banks do not what to spend one centavo extra. Another branch I paid fees to the Immigration Office, the branch employee I asked to make a copy of my receipt, for a moment looked at me as if I were crazy. He made the copy.

They use the visa m/c rate. Plus they reimburse for ATM charges in Mexico. Mexican Banks charge for deposits, withdrawals plus deduct a monthly fee. Very, very expensive.
